PAK MEI Kung Fu, Head Instructor
BJJ, Assistant Instructor
Native New Yorker and lifelong martial artist, Chris continues his family's charge as the 7th generation instructor of PAK MEI Kung Fu 白眉拳.
Chris began learning various martial arts at the young age of 5, from Karate to Tae Kwon Do before soon learning his family's charge around the same time. In 2009, after years of training PAK MEI at home, his father John Yee (6th) recommended that Chris formally train with his uncle, Kwong Man Fong (5th) a direct inheritor from Grandmaster Chueng Lai Chuen, in NYC Chinatown. Chris went on to compete (2010) and train those in amateur SAN DA Kickboxing with a PAK MEI influence. In 2014, before his passing, Kwong Man Fong gave his blessings to his last disciples to continue spreading real Kung Fu to the west. Chris continues to teach under the guidance of Edgar Wong (6th) in NYC Chinatown in addition to uptown Washington Heights (2021).
After a training accident, Chris picked up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2018 as a means of continued learning during recovery and received his blue belt under Professor Fabio Clemente in 2023. Chris currently trains under Professor Silvio Duran and Vedha Toscano.
A martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. Developed in Brazil in the early 20th century, BJJ emphasizes techniques that allow a smaller, weaker person to successfully defend against and overcome a larger, stronger opponent. This is achieved through the use of leverage, joint locks, and chokeholds. BJJ is known for its practical self-defense applications and is a core component of mixed martial arts (MMA) training. It promotes physical fitness, flexibility, and mental discipline, making it a holistic approach to personal development and self-improvement.
The system was popularized in the early 1900s China by 張禮泉 Chueng Lai Chuen, after defeating nearly all of the famed masters of the era and earning his place as the head instructor at 黄埔区 Whampoa Military Academy (1924), the birthplace of SAN DA kickboxing. To this day, PAK MEI is still considered the deadliest of Chinese martial arts.
PAK MEI emphasizes aggressive close quarters combat (blitzing), grip fighting/trapping, body mechanics, and breathwork. Contemporary PAK MEI as passed down from Grandmaster Chueng include elements of Wanderers, Southern Dragon, and Lee family styles.
A full-contact combat sport that combines techniques from various martial arts disciplines, including striking, grappling, and submissions.
